Heroes, Canada's Wonderland and Rachel McAdams

I am so excited because Heroes starts tonight! We are having a bit of a Heroes party to celebrate (just with popcorn and pop because it's a school night). I am also excited because I think Mylène is going to watch with us, and she has not really watched it yet. She watched the premiere episode that we got in a box of popcorn and seemed to like it.

We had a great weekend this past weekend. Barry, Mylène, Krystal, Mark and I went to Canada’s Wonderland on Saturday. It was a blast! I hadn’t been to Canada’s Wonderland in so long so it was such a treat to go.

When we were planning the trip, Barry and I decided that we wouldn’t pack a lunch, we would just take some snack food. We knew it would be expensive to eat lunch in the park, but we had no idea how expensive. That was definitely a mistake. A typical lunch (hamburger and fries) ranges from about $9.00-$11.00, and the Funnel Cake that is a “must have” at Canada’s Wonderland is about the same. If you just want it dusted with icing sugar it’s only $8.99, but with the strawberries and ice cream it’s about $10.50. CRAZY!!! I can’t imagine how families pay to go to Canada’s Wonderland, especially since admission is now $50.00!!!

Even though it was crazy expensive, we had a fabulous time! I’m so glad we went.

Sunday was spent doing homework to make up for my slacking and joining classes late in the term. I had planned to do some work on Friday night, but after having dinner with Julia and Krystal, I invited Krystal to just come over and spend the night at our place, since we were leaving early in the morning. It was pretty cool, and we had quite the adventure.

While we were waiting in line at the LCBO, one of the guys who works there was upset that he had made a blunder. When I asked him about it, he said that Rachel McAdams had been in the store and he had asked her for ID. It turns out that less than 10 minutes before we were at the cash register, Rachel McAdams was too! We had a laugh at his expense, especially after he told us that in order to make up for his mistake, he called out: “You’re beautiful” as she was leaving the store.

After leaving the liquor store, we went next door to Sobeys to buy some ice and mix, and I started talking to one of the cashiers about the Rachel McAdams fiasco. Surprisingly, she already knew, and so did all the cashiers! Good gossip really does travel fast!

We came home to tell Barry and Mylène the story, but they didn’t think it was as funny (I guess you had to be there…and know who Rachel McAdams is!) We had fun anyway, drinking and playing Settlers of Catan. Barry and I are determined to recruit more players, and if Mylène likes the game (and she seems to) we can play more often!

Back in school again!

I'm really struggling with this term. I'm not sure if it's because I'm sick of school in general or if it's just because of the problems I'm having with my courses, but I'm having a difficult time.

First, I signed up for French and math this term, to use towards my teacher's college application. Math is useful for teaching elementary school, and it looks really good on the teacher's college application, while French is a continuation: I only need two more French courses to attain my French certificate. A certificate in French means that I am qualified to teach French immersion.

The first problem I encountered was on my first day back to school. I had French first thing, and I didn't understand a single word that anyone said during the whole class. I also struggled with math, but since I have Barry and Mylene for support, I decided to stick it out. But then, in a twist of fate, I found out that the admissions to teachers college only looks at completed courses as of the application deadline, which is November 30. Neither my math course nor my French certificate will be on my application.

So, I immediately dropped the math because it was of absolutely no use to me. I replaced it with another English class, to finish up my English requirements more quickly. I decided to stick with the French though, since a French certificate will help me get a teaching job.

I thought I had everything all worked out at the end of last week, and was looking forward to this week being normal. Then I went to French this morning and didn't understand anything again. The TA called on me, and I was unable to answer any of her questions. I started crying in the middle of class, and stressed about it for the rest of the day.

So....now I might be dropping French too. I talked to my academic adviser and emailed the head of the French department to try to find a way to be successful in this course, but I don't think it's going to work out. Now my problem is trying to find a course to replace the French, which is nearly impossible. The only courses that are even remotely interesting to me are English courses, and I already have 4 this term.

Stay tuned for updates!

Happy Birthday Poe!

Wednesday was Poe's first birthday.
We bought her presents and a special birthday dinner of grilled salmon in a can. She usually has dry cat food, so this was a real treat!

When I was at night class, Barry and Mylene made Poe a birthday hat and took some pictures.

What happened???

Well...

What can I say about my serious lack of blogs over the last 5 months? I could make excuses, but I'm sure everyone knows that it's only because of Facebook. When I joined Facebook, blogging just didn't have the same appeal to me, and I guess it's getting old now and blogging has started calling me back.

Also, Barry and I have a new roomate, Mylene, who is from France. She was telling us about her blog and I started to feel guilty about my own. She showed us her blog tonight and she has 20 posts for September alone!!! I decided right then to post some new things. So, hopefully I will have some new stuff up soon.

Barry and I are also going to start a wedding blog soon, and we will link that blog with this one and probably Mylene's blog too.

I may even get really ambitious and try writing a blog or two in French (for practice!)
